The Irish Terrier distinctly differs from other terriers.  He is of medium size, around 18" at the shoulder and around 27 pounds.  He is a lean dog with a racy look to his outline.  He has keen, alert eyes that could look right through you; this has given him the nickname of "Daredevil".  Although he is an active dog, extremely playful and always ready, he should never be hyper.  He is a whole-colored dog, which can range from all shades of red, to red-wheaten to wheaten.  A white spot or patch on his chest is acceptable.  Puppies often have black guard hairs on their chins, tail and sometimes on their back.  This will disappear when they become adults.
The Irish Terrier coat should be dense and wiry. It is hard to the touch and repels both water and dirt.  They do not shed and only on occasion will you find "broken hair".  The Irish Terrier does require hand stripping several times a year to maintain his nice appearance.  Left ungroomed, his coat could grow up to a length of 3-4" all over.  Hand stripping does not hurt them.  You are plucking out the long, dead hairs.  If you clipper groom them you will lose the hard red outer coat leaving a softer and lighter undercoat that in time will change color and could go curly.

Life span for the Irish Terrier is 12-16 years with some living as long as 18 years.  They are one of the healthiest breed of dogs.  They do not have the genetic problems that so many other breeds face.

The temperament of the Irish Terrier is of a calm dog, never hyper, that excels with children of all ages.  He is loyal, territorial and devoted to his owners.  He will gladly give up his life guarding his owners or property.  He is an Alpha dog AT ALL TIMESMOST adult Irish Terriers will not get along with other dogs of the same sex.  They learn easily as long as you both have the understanding that you are the one in charge at all times.

About Us

All of our dogs are companions first and show dogs second.  They live in our house, sleep in our beds, swim in the pool and play with my daughter and all the neighborhood kids.  They love to play with children of all ages.

We have been breeding, showing and training dogs for over 26 years.

  • I have worked in vet hospitals for over 5 years and with some of the nations top dog show handlers.  (They now call me to ask for help.)

We breed for temperament, attitude, coat, color and overall type of dog.

  • A Terrier has to have a nice, friendly temperament and outgoing personality but also needs to have the attitude for the show ring.  (What is the old saying, "Watch out for the red-headed Irishman's quick temper and always ready for a fight.")  (Irish Terriers need to have the fire in the ring around other dogs and not people.)

We breed for the hard, dark coats.

  • (We have found the darker the red, the harder the coat with less grooming required.  We have some Irish that only need to be groomed once or twice a year.)

Over 90% of our champions are breeder / owner handled and groomed.

I currently offer a mobile grooming service that covers all of So. Calif.

We offer champion stud service.

Please feel free to contact us for more info or inquiries on puppies, stud service or grooming.

We have had Hit Counter visitors to our website.
